Project Overview and Challenges:
- This project was about transit connectivity upgrading works which involved the upgrading of Terminal 2, part of the latest terminal renovation works at Changi Airport. The objective was to enhance passenger transit between the Level 2 gate hold rooms and the Level 1 bus gates. The scope included the diversion of existing mechanical and electrical (M&E) services and the installation of new M&E systems, lifts, and escalators to facilitate smoother passenger movement.
- A major challenge was executing extensive M&E diversion works within a live airport environment. This required comprehensive site surveys to trace and identify existing services and cabling above ceilings while ensuring zero disruption to airport operations and maintaining the highest safety standards.
- To overcome these challenges, we formed specialized teams for each service discipline to coordinate closely with all stakeholders. Their expertise enabled precise mapping of existing systems and the effective planning of M&E diversions to support the new infrastructure.
- Another significant challenge was the acceleration of project completion. Initially planned over three years, the schedule was compressed to 15 months following the reopening of global air travel after the pandemic. Despite this tight timeline, our team successfully executed all six bus gate addition and alteration works, completing the fit-out and handover on time.
- The project was delivered safely, on schedule, and within the revised timeframe, ensuring minimal disruption to airport operations and enhancing the overall passenger transit experience.
